Only Two More Months!

Thank you guys for your sweet comments and encouragement. I am grateful for all of the kindness I've experienced since Blake proposed. It makes this time extra fun.

It's been a very busy last two weeks as we've set a date (June 12th) and chosen and booked: a ceremony location (our church which is two blocks from our lofts), reception location (also two blocks away), and honeymoon location (Dominican Republic). So all of the big stuff is settled, and I am making a dress decision on Saturday. I'm not in love with any of the ones I've tried on, but the dress part isn't very important to me and I'm not really willing to spend much time or money on it...so we'll see.

I also have a trial coming up in two weeks, so needless to say I feel a bit overwhelmed at times. I'm really excited about being married, and I think we'll both be glad when this planning stage is over. Blake has almost finished designing our invitations, and he even registered for our dishes at a local store one afternoon.

We're having a small wedding--just family and very close friends, so that's made all of the planning easier, although it's made the guest list very challenging. Finding a reception venue that can accommodate a lot of people and that isn't prohibitively expensive at this "late" date is challenging (a few people have asked if I'm pregnant...and the answer is a resounding "no"), plus we both want a smaller, modest wedding. I doubt we'll hire a florist, and the jury is out on photographers. So many photographers will not let you have your digital prints or have wedding packages beginning at $2500; I'm just not willing to spend that kind of money. We're not having any attendants--just a flower girl. We're doing our best to keep it simple and focused on what is important to us--having a worship ceremony to celebrate Christ and our covenant of marriage and being with those that we love and who will help encourage and hold us accountable in the future (and when we're mad at each other :)

Just 65 more days until Blake & I are relaxing on the beach at an amazing resort....and on that note, happy Friday and happy weekend!

p.s. I'm thankful for this beautiful, sunshine-filled day and the weekend ahead.

My husband and I had a very small wedding...just six close family members, plus the officiant and photographer. We got married on a beach in Florida. It was perfect. I'd do it the same way all over again. I can understand passing on the florist, but I would not pass on a photographer. Ours sold us the disk of all the digital prints. We bought a wedding package and the disk was included in the price. Congrats on your upcoming nupitals. I hope you are very happy!

so exciting! I agree with anonymous, I would not skip on the photographer. You can most definitely hire a photographer that will give/sell you all your prints on disk. That was my main thing when booking ours. We almost skipped on the videographer and we are SO glad we did not. Years to come, we look forward to showing our children the video from our wedding. I don't know you personally but I would say you'd regret not having a photographer! :))) Happy Friday!

Mine wouldn't be professional, but I've been told most of my photos look like they could be: I'll come take the pics for you ;)

Seriously though, get a photographer. I really think you'll regret it. Just make sure to hire one that WILL give you that disk.

Everything sounds perfect!

I like the idea of a small wedding. The Photographer (my other half in case you haven't read my blog...) and I will actually be state-side on that date! His website is http://www.charlwoodphotography.com His prices start at c.$750. Either way - excited for you!

Scotty: We're hoping to keep it around 75 people....

Anon & others :) As for photography, you guys are right, and I imagine we'll end up finding someone who is just getting started with a professional career who would be willing to give us the digital images and wouldn't cost a fortune. That's just a detail we haven't ironed out yet, but now that we've printed the invitations and I've ordered a dress we'll start thinking about stuff like that.

I understand both the busyness and the eagerness to be beyond this wedding planning phase! I'm glad to hear that you're maintaining a good perspective on what this big shindig is really all about. :)

I'm so excited for you! Actually Kerri is getting married on Saturday! I think her wedding is gonna be really special too - it's always great when it's about relationships and Jesus and not just the dress and the cake and stuff. I'm sure your wedding will be beautiful and memorable and special. We used a starting out wedding photography duo and they did a great job and now I couldn't afford them! :)

Guess what else - Tricia's girls are in my son's class at "school" :) I saw her this morning! They are beautiful girls. I am so excited to reconnect with her.

I had a small, simple, beautiful wedding so I totally love your plans :)

Do you know, it never even entered my head that you were pregnant. Do people still get married cos the woman is pregnant these days?

So am I invited? Kidding.

I like small, simple, short, and sweet. It seems like your focus is right where it should be...the honeymoon. HA!

Ys: Probably, but I bet it's much less common. I think sometimes couples were already planning to eventually get married--the baby just speeds things along :)
