Excited....about Two (or Three) Match Guys!

Just when we thought I was hard-hearted and completely indifferent to online dating (and destined to live alone in my bathrobe with 12 cats) I received two e-mails that actually made me happy, and for the first time I talked to a Match guy on the phone. I also canceled my Match membership. Match tried to entice me with another three months for the price of one, but I don't want to spend so much time on the computer, especially now that spring is here. Plus I'm emailing with more than five guys, which is plenty.

I spent most of last weekend in Atlanta and met up with the Match guy I briefly mentioned a few weeks ago. "MJ" is from Chicago, lives just north of Atlanta, has a super cool job (sports marketing), is 6'5, and seems committed to his faith. AND he arrived at Starbucks with a half dozen cupcakes from a bakery I'd mentioned to him over three weeks ago. That really set the right tone :) It was really thoughtful and just nice to see a guy making an effort like that. We talked for 2 and 1/2 hours; he asked about grabbing dinner, but I wanted to get back to Calhoun to see my nieces before their bedtime. He e-mailed me yesterday to say how much he enjoyed talking face to face and that he looked forward to doing it again. And I didn't even have to ask you guys if I should write him back either.

In other Match news, I e-mailed a guy about two weeks ago. I rarely initiate contact with boys, but this guy's profile was fabulous; he shared his Myers-Briggs type, mentioned C.S. Lewis, and made reference to working with the youth at his church. And it was all so cleverly written. He wrote me back last week (b/c he had not been a member when I wrote him), and I've been as smitten as one can be from an exchange of e-mails. I had forgotten how much I can love written correspondence (and spend hours on it), and the more this guy shares the more (1) I like him and (2) realize how he is totally not my usual type. For example, he seems very artsy and played with the symphony and sang at a jazz jam on Sunday. He's 5'9 and from New England. He's sensitive. Fingers crossed that if we ever meet, I am attracted to him. He lives in Nashville, and I'm going there in a few weeks....so we'll see.

There's another Match guy I'd like to meet, but this post is long enough.

p.s. I'm grateful that the winter funk seems to be all gone and that my heart is more thankful and joyous.

PS - That was so not my nursery! Just the picture I found off the internet of the bedding at the store we got it at. However, I hope for it to look that good or better by the time we're done!

Scotty: Seriously.

Jennifer: I'll bet that with your mad decorating skillz that yours will look even better!

Case-closed.

I think you should propose to the guy that brought you cupcakes.

Sounds like a promising group. How sweet of the Atlanta guy to remember the bakery you mentioned and to bring you cupcakes.
Looking forward to hearing about your meet-up with Nashville-guy.

So, I had not yet read this post when I sent you an email with the word "smitten" in it...too funny...great minds. I'm rooting for Nashville boy...we have to get you back here somehow :)

I think Aaron might be on to something...

Seriously, any guy who remembers something you said that long ago in passing and makes an effort to bring it to fruition on your first date is definitely amazing.

Amen Scotty! Sounds like you have some good guys on your hand. By the way, my vote is cupcake guy! Can we call him cupcake guy from now on? Kidding. Also, feel free to share your guy wealth.

See, online dating isn't all that bad now, is it? :-) A word of warning from one who knows all too well...some guys sound great on paper but aren't so great on the phone or in person. I'd highly recommend moving to the phone with Nashville guy shortly and meeting him in person before you get too smitten. I really liked one guy too via e-mail, then I talked to him on the phone and wondered if the guy writing me was the same as the one talking to me on the phone. They were very different. We never met.

Anonymous: That's good advice. When I did a free trial on Match a few years ago I emailed and talked to a guy on the phone and he seemed great...but in person...wells lets just say it was the worst date I've ever been on by far.

Wow...Ally. This all sounds quite promising! Yay for internet dating! Woo woo!

So...just curious...what is the artsy guy's Meyers Briggs type? What is your MB type? I'm an INFP.

The cupcakes...that was a smooth move. And, I'm curious. My cousin works in sports marketing in Atlanta and is also a Christian. Hmmm...I wonder if they know each other.

Your update here reminds me of my beginning stages of dating Chris. We emailed for a week online before we met in person, and I loved reading his emails. Sometimes, they scared me--how similar we were and all.

I'm so glad that you've got some great prospects. Way to be bold and play out the internet dating scene. It worked for me, so I'm all for it. :)

Glad to hear you're doing well.

OK, I had to (re)take this test after reading your post.

I'm an ISFP.

Good to hear things are going well in match world. Also, you're really good at getting songs in my head. After reading your hard-hearted line, I've been singing Cold Hearted by Paula Abdul.

Bot of these guys sound absolutely charming. I can't imagine how you'll juggle them when the third guy enters the mix.

But I'd say get to know them each and find out whose temperament and character suit you best. But most of all, have fun!

I object, Match Date #1 seems like taking the advantage of your weakness for cup cakes.
Match Date #2 sounds like a real deal but he's from N state, shouldn't M state guy get the first chance? :)

Ally said...

CC: Hahaha. I do not discriminate against either M or N state :)

Kenneth: I think I'm emailing with five guys....I need a chart.

Bone: I like to twirl a baton to that song while singing...you should try it.

Lib: I'm borderline I/E and have tested as both....but the type that best describes me is ENTP. I definitely need my alone time to recharge. The artsy guy is an INFJ...which coincidentally MB says is the best type for an ENTP.
